CHURCH’S VINTAGE VELDTSCHOEN DERBY – BROWN / TAN – UK 8.5 – ELGIN – VERY GOOD CONDITION
A fine (and very rare) vintage pair of Custom Grade derby shoes in brown / tan / mahogany (?) grained leather from Church’s – perfect town-and-country footwear. They are in very good used condition, overall – notwithstanding a little creasing across the vamps and the odd surface mark here and there (see photos). This pair feature the weather-resistant veldtschoen construction – a rare thing for a pair of Church’s shoes (and this is a very rare design to see at all anyway) – the shoes have been professionally refurbished by Church’s at some time and have been little worn since then.
In my opinion, although modern-day Church’s shoes are still very desirable, well-made and fashioned from first-class materials, they are not quite as exceptional as those from some years ago. So, if you can find a pair of vintage Church’s in really nice condition then you are probably finding some of the nicest shoes around.
But, please remember, these are not new so do not bid on them if you want a pair of completely unmarked shoes – they will cost considerably more !!
The width fitting is ‘F’ - which is the ‘standard’ width fitting. This pair were built on the 81 Last (probably best known as the ‘Burwood’ last)
The style is ‘Elgin’ – a beautifully proportioned town-and-country derby.
The shoes feature grained leather uppers, full leather linings, leather soles, weather-resistant veldtschoen construction and all the hand-built quality one would expect from Church’s.
Wonderful quality shoes from a traditional English shoemaker.
