CHURCH’S VINTAGE DERBY – BROWN / TAN HIPPO HIDE – UK 8 – SABIC – EXCELLENT CONDITION
A very fine (and extremely rare) pair of vintage, Custom Grade, three-eyelet, plain front derby shoes in ‘brown / tan Hippopotamus hide leather from Church’s. This particular pair were fitted and retailed by Jones & Sons. They are in excellent used condition overall – notwithstanding a little creasing across the vamps and the odd surface mark here and there (see photos). This design is extremely rare to see (I have never seen another pair myself) so, you will be most unlikely to ever meet anyone else wearing the same shoes as you - always a nice feeling, I think.
In my opinion, although modern-day Church’s shoes are still very desirable, well-made and fashioned from first-class materials, they are not quite as exceptional as those from some years ago. So, if you can find a pair of vintage Church’s in really nice condition then you are probably finding some of the nicest shoes around.
The width fitting is ‘E’ - which is the ‘narrower-than-standard’ width fitting.
The style is ‘Sabic’ – beautifully proportioned and built on the 84 Last.
The shoes feature ‘Genuine Hippo’ leather uppers, full calf leather linings, leather soles and all the hand-built quality one would expect from Church’s.
Wonderful quality shoes from a traditional English shoemaker.
